Watching the slight girl with the messy, chestnut-brown ponytail and heart-shaped face (who needed a little makeup and eyebrow shaping to live up to her potential, frankly), Emily Clements, the medical assistant who'd taken the girl's vitals and drawn her blood, nudged her coworker Marissa and whispered, "That's the girl. The pregnant one who said she's never had sex."

Marissa turned to see the girl hurrying through the waiting room toward the exit. "She really said that?"

Emily nodded. "I was drawing blood for the test and she was all, 'This is ridiculous. It's impossible.'"

"So how does she explain being pregnant? Mishap in the hot tub?"

"She says she's not pregnant. But give me a break. Pee don't lie."

Marissa laughed.

As they headed down the hall to get their stuff before leaving for lunch, Emily and Marissa discussed the strangest patients and ailments they'd ever dealt with. This was one of Emily's favorite things to talk about with other health care workers. She liked having a whole bag of stories about weird patients to reach into when conversation lagged at parties or wherever. There was even a "Freakers" chat thread on the private forum she was part of where nurses and techs bitched about their jobs.

"Pregnant virgin" would be a nice addition.

The Life, Adventures and Piracies of the Famous Captain Singleton is a novel by Daniel Defoe, who is an English trader, writer, journalist, pamphleteer and spy, primarily published in 1720. It has been republished multiple times. Captain Singleton is considered to have been partly inspired by the exploits of the English pirate Henry Every, who operated in the late 17th century. The narrative describes the life of the Englishman, Singleton, stolen from a well-to-do family as a child and raised by Gypsies, eventually making his way to sea. The former half of the book concerns Singleton's crossing of Africa, the latter half referring to his life as a pirate in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. Defoe's description of piracy focuses on the most part on matters of economics and logistics, making it an intriguing if not particularly gripping read.
