Brigham Young University (BYU)， located in Provo， Utah， United States， is a private， coeducational research university. It is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church)， and is the largest religious university and third-largest private university enrollment in the U.S. In addition to its main location in Provo， BYU has campuses in Idaho and Hawaii. Many students (78% of men， 10% of women) take a two-year hiatus from their studies at some point to serve as Mormon missionaries.BYU has many foreign language classes， offering courses in over 70 languages. Over 75% of BYU students have some foreign language proficiency. BYU offers an undergraduate linguistics program that incorporates the university"s philosophy on religion and ethics. The program prepares students for advanced studies and language-related careers. The BYU Ballroom Dance Company is known as one of the best formation ballroom dance teams in the world， having won the U.S. National Formation Dance Championship every year since 1982.

Campus code： BYU students are required to adhere to an honor code， which mandates behavior in line with LDS teachings (e.g. academic honesty， adherence to dress and grooming standards， obey the law and all campus policies， use clean language， respect others， participate regularly in church services and abstinence from extramarital sex and from the consumption of drugs and alcohol).Students and faculty found in violation of standards are either warned or called to meet with representatives of the Honor Council. In rare cases， students and faculty can be expelled from the school or lose tenure.

杨百翰大学最大的特点莫过于其宗教氛围。因宗教影响，校风极其保守，新生入学时，必须签署一份约章，包括不饮酒、不抽烟、不吸毒，甚至不喝咖啡或茶。
杨百翰大学学生必须选修七学期的宗教课程，校内教规颇严。比如星期日，如果不去教堂基本只能独自在宿舍做作业；爱好摇滚乐等比较"反叛"的音乐在校园上也不能太张扬。学生不可以有淫乱行为， 不可以穿着暴露。因为大部分是教友的关系， 同学、教授都对人特别友好。
宗教背景也使得杨百翰大学的学制与一般学校不太一样： 大学只有四分一的学生可以在五年内毕业，因为在大二，摩门教的男生都会依照教会传统，外出传教两年，女生则可自主选择是否传教。
